PROJECT OVERVIEW

NATURAL WHITE OAK. WARM, DURABLE SATIN FINISH.

This Cambridge home features 2½-inch mixed white oak across the open living and kitchen areas, along with coordinating hardwood stair treads. Professional sanding renewed the surface while preserving the varied grain and natural character of the oak.

One coat of Bona AmberSeal brought warm depth to the mixed boards. The second and third coats used Berger-Seidle GreenStar Satin to create a smooth, balanced sheen and durable protection throughout the connected rooms and staircase.

HOW THE PROJECT CAME TOGETHER

FROM PREPARATION TO THE FINISHED FLOOR.

01

EVALUATION

The mixed white oak, room transitions and stair treads were reviewed to plan the sanding and finishing sequence.

02

PREPARATION

Rooms, edges and transition areas were prepared before the sanding and finishing stages began.

03

SANDING

The existing finish and surface wear were removed using a professional sanding sequence appropriate for the mixed white oak.

04

SEALING

One coat of Bona AmberSeal was applied to enrich the white oak’s natural grain and warm color.

05

PROTECTION

Two coats of Berger-Seidle GreenStar Satin completed and protected the refinished floors and stair treads.

COMPLETED RESULT

MIXED WHITE OAK. ONE CONSISTENT FINISH.

The completed project restored the 2½-inch mixed white oak while preserving its lively board-to-board variation. AmberSeal added warmth, and the two GreenStar Satin coats created a smooth, consistent finish across the open rooms and staircase.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT

The long, open sightlines make finish consistency especially important. The completed floor reads as one continuous surface from the living area to the kitchen, with coordinated stair treads nearby.

PROJECT QUESTIONS

FREQUENTLY ASKED FLOORING QUESTIONS.

What is mixed white oak flooring?
Mixed white oak contains natural variation in grain and tone across the boards. Refinishing preserves that character while creating a consistent surface and sheen.
What does Bona AmberSeal do?
Bona AmberSeal adds warm amber color and helps highlight the natural grain of the white oak before the protective finish coats are applied.
Why were two GreenStar Satin coats applied?
The second and third coats build the protective finish system and create the smooth, balanced satin sheen visible in the completed rooms.
