We want to keep the old baseboards. Can the floor be refinished without replacing them?
We’ll check how the floor meets the trim and discuss edge preparation and protection before work begins. Existing baseboards can often remain, although loose sections or an installation that changes the floor height may need attention. We’ll explain any trim work separately so preserving the detail is part of the agreed scope.
A former doorway has an obvious patch. Can it be made less noticeable?
We’ll compare the patch with the surrounding boards, including species, width, direction, and coating. If the material is compatible, refinishing may reduce the difference; unsuitable wood may need replacement. The room’s layout determines whether a woven repair is practical and how far finishing should extend beyond the former doorway.
Can you work closely around the hearth in our older house?
We’ll look at the flooring edge and the condition of the adjacent hearth before planning sanding or board removal. Small areas require detailed preparation and protection of surrounding surfaces. If the hearth or its support needs work, that should be addressed separately; floor sanding cannot repair movement in the masonry or underlying structure.
The back room was added later and the boards run sideways. Should we try to continue the front-room pattern?
We’ll check both layouts and the subfloor before recommending a change in direction. Continuing the original pattern may require more removal than expected, while a purposeful transition can preserve sound flooring. We’ll explain the difference in scope and likely appearance so the choice suits both the older rooms and the addition.
