Our bungalow has several low door clearances. Can we still replace carpet with hardwood?
We’ll measure the doors and existing finished levels, then establish which layers will be removed. The space available after preparation helps determine the flooring product and transition details. We’ll talk through any door or trim adjustments separately, because simply installing a thicker surface can create problems in several connected rooms at once.
The short hall meets the top stair. How do you plan the floor height?
We’ll measure the existing hall, landing, and stair connection before selecting new material. Changing the surface height can affect that junction, so the installation needs a planned transition. We’ll explain any associated carpentry or further assessment required before you choose the flooring and approve the work.
Our bedrooms have narrow boards. Would wider boards look out of place in the next room?
We’ll compare the rooms you’re keeping with the proposed area and discuss whether continuity or a change in flooring is the better goal. Different widths will remain visible even with a similar stain. We plan the doorway connection and finish samples so you can assess that difference before choosing the new floor.
Can you tell whether the boards exposed during renovation are flooring or just the subfloor?
We’ll check the material, thickness, fastening, surface, and accessible construction below it. An exposed wood layer is not automatically a finished floor suitable for sanding and coating. We’ll explain what it can support and whether additional flooring is needed, with the final recommendation based on inspection rather than photos alone.
