A narrow hallway connects the original rooms to our addition. Can the flooring continue through it?
We’ll measure the connection and compare board direction, finished heights, and the subfloor on each side. A continuous run may be practical, but it can require preparation or changes beyond the narrow passage. We’ll explain when a threshold would preserve more existing flooring and give a cleaner, more dependable connection.
The boards change direction at an old doorway. Does refinishing require removing that transition?
Not necessarily. We’ll check the transition and surrounding boards to see whether it is sound and useful. Refinishing can retain a change in flooring in direction. If you want it removed, we explain the resulting gap, material requirements, and repair pattern before assuming the two floors can become one continuous surface.
Can the oldest room keep its natural variation while the addition gets new hardwood?
We’ll look at the floors you’re keeping and discuss a new flooring that works with it without promising an identical appearance. Samples can help with tone and sheen, but board age and grain will remain different. A planned connection allows each area to keep its character while the floors look good together.
An old threshold hides damaged ends of several boards. Can that be repaired properly?
We’ll check the affected ends and the support underneath once the area is accessible. The repair may need staggered replacement boards rather than a wider cover strip. We’ll compare compatible material and discuss the necessary finishing area, including whether repairs on both sides of the doorway need to be treated together.
