There is carpet in the old part of the house. Can you inspect underneath before we order flooring?
An accessible edge can tell us something about the material, but it will not reveal the condition of the whole room. We’ll talk through a small inspection area and then reassess after removal. Stains, earlier patches, and remaining thickness determine whether the exposed floor is worth refinishing or needs selected replacement.
The floor in our addition is higher than the original rooms. Can that height difference be reduced?
We’ll measure the existing finished surfaces and examine the supporting construction before recommending a thickness or transition. The answer may involve subfloor preparation rather than simply adding boards. Door clearances and the adjoining rooms limit the options, so we explain the likely finished connection before you commit to a product.
The older boards disappear under a newer partition. Can we keep them when the room changes?
We look at how the partition meets the floor and what becomes exposed when it is removed. Continuous boards may remain usable, while cut ends or missing sections can require a patch. We plan the repair around the actual layout and discuss whether finishing beyond the opening will help it blend.
Can an old farmhouse floor and a newer family room use the same finish?
We’ll compare the wood, existing coatings, and condition in both areas first. A compatible system may be used across them, but age, grain, and previous work can create visible differences. Samples help you choose a color, and we explain whether the older area can tolerate the preparation needed for that finish.
