Questions from homeowners

Questions about work in your home

The floors in our older house have already been sanded. Can they be done again?

We’ll check the remaining wood above the tongue, worn edges, and earlier repairs. An older floor may still be suitable for refinishing, but exposed fasteners or very thin boards can limit how much sanding it can take.

We found dark patches under the carpet. Can those be sanded out?

Some marks improve with sanding; stains that extend deep into the wood may remain. We’ll look at the exposed boards before recommending refinishing or replacing individual sections. The rest of a sound floor may be worth keeping.

Our addition has different boards from the original rooms. Can they look more consistent?

We’ll compare the species, board widths, floor heights, and existing finishes. Coordinated refinishing can help with color, but it will not change the grain or dimensions. We’ll explain whether a transition or selected board replacement would give a better result.

Can you repair a damaged board without disturbing the old border around the room?

We’ll look at the damaged area and how the border is laid before removing anything. A focused repair may preserve the surrounding pattern. Matching older wood takes care, and new pieces may still differ in color or grain.
