Questions from homeowners

Questions about work in your home

We found hardwood under carpet, but one corner is plywood. What happens next?

We’ll look at the exposed wood and determine how large the missing section is before recommending a repair. Board dimensions, species, remaining thickness, and the supporting surface affect whether new material can be fitted. Then we’ll talk through finishing the room and the likely appearance of the repaired corner beside the older flooring.

Can we remove carpet now and choose the stain after seeing the floor?

That can be a useful sequence when the material and condition are uncertain. We’ll check the uncovered boards, identify necessary repairs, and assess whether sanding is suitable before sampling colors. Carpet removal alone does not establish that all marks can be removed, so the final scope follows that inspection.

We want hardwood in the bedrooms but already like the hall. Can the hall stay as it is?

We’ll compare the hallway flooring, height, and finish with the planned bedroom flooring. Doorways may allow the new work to stop neatly without refinishing the hall, although color and sheen can differ. We’ll explain the connection and use samples where useful so preserving the hallway is part of the installation plan.

Do staple holes mean the newly uncovered floor needs to be replaced?

Small fastener holes may be addressed during preparation, but we inspect for split edges, deep stains, and other damage as well. The remaining thickness determines whether refinishing is practical. We separate cosmetic marks from structural problems in the boards and explain any selected replacements before recommending work across the entire room.
